At Christmas our hearts are softened and our pocket books are opened, even if only to place a quarter in the red bucket with the bell ringing Salvation Army Volunteer. Angel trees pop up in church lobbies and other places where allowed.
At times I wonder if the few cents I have will really matter and who will they help? I want to know that not only will a child have a meal for a day, but a special spot in a loving home and adequate healthcare. I desire that every child have a warm cuddly blanket, a snuggly toy, good books to read and their physical needs tended to so they can experience the best that life can give and grow up to be productive adults.
Save the Child deals with a girl who has acute lymphoblastic leukemia. I am the administrator for Writers Unite to Fight Cancer. Our chosen Charity is the American Association for Cancer Research. (AACR)
There are many other worthy causes. I invite you to dig deep, perhaps even do without so that you can feel the satisfaction of “helping Tiny Tim.” Below are some other wonderful organizations who count on donations to help find a cure for the diseases that plague children around the world.
May you and your family have a very Merry and Healthy Christmas.
American Institute of Philanthropy has a rating system for charities to help donors decide on whether a charity is worthy of their contributions.
