Oncolytic Viruses: One Possible Cure for Cancer

The fact that viruses cause many diseases has been known for many years. Recent discoveries show that viruses cause several types of cancer.  20th century scientists developed vaccines to prevent the devastation caused by many viruses. Now, 21st century researches are using viruses to develop vaccines to prevent cancer as well as to treat active cancer patients.

Researchers found evidence that vaccinating against viruses might prove effective in preventing cancers. When the researchers vaccinated the mice against the herpes virus, none of the mice developed cancer.

While a vaccine against Epstein–Barr and other herpes viruses could theoretically be made, a report claims companies would not be willing to take the risk to develop them unless there was some significant disease threat. [Read more...]
